Construction Innovation and Arup have won the prestigous Project of the Year Award  at the 2007 ACEA Awards for Excellence.

The team won a Gold Award of Special Merit and Project of the Year for 'Adopting BIM for Facilities Management: Solutions for the Sydney Opera House', announced at the ACEA awards dinner in Melbourne on 30 November.

The award caps a year of achievement for Construction Innovation research.  Our Sydney Opera House FM Exemplar Project, upon which the award was based, also won the Rider Hunt Terotech Industry Achievement Award for facility management strategy and practice in May 2007. The BIM component of the research featured in two international awards – the Jury's Choice category of the American Institute of Architects Technology in Architectural Practice 2007 awards, and the Bentley Awards for Excellence 2007 award for BIM in multiple disciplines.

In addition, Construction Innovation's safety culture research (see article in this edition) won the 2007 AIB Professional Excellence Award in the Research and Development category, the Victorian Chapter of the Australian Institute of Building's (AIB) Professional Excellence in Building in June 2007 and the 2007 IFAWPCA Atsumi Award.

Dr  Keith Hampson, who attended the ACEA awards ceremony with the team, congratulated all involved with the project and said it demonstrated the  unique national benefits of a collaborative approach to supporting industry development through applied research.
